September 8th, 2010

TURTLE BAYSome properties damaged by the March 2008 crane collapse at 303 East 51st Street that killed seven people have bounced back. Others haven't. Like 301 East 50th Street, a six-story, 20-unit building badly damaged in the collapse. A tipster passing by the building noticed a sales banner advertising it as a development site. According to the listing, as of right usage could yield a new 10-story building. [CurbedWire Inbox/Issembert Companies]
THE MILLERVERSEBetween blogging, podcasting, graphing and market reporting, Jonathan Miller probably doesn't have much time for sleeping. And now he'll have even less, because he's trying out a new hobby: Teaching! That's right, the real estate market knowledge that he dispenses to us for free will now be available in info-packed seminars that Miller has sadly decided to call MillerQA instead of JMillz University. The next one, breaking down the third-quarter market data, will be October 7. [MillerQA]

With Labor Day in the rear-view mirror, a bevy of new properties are hitting the market, providing plenty of fodder for our new weekly feature, The HotSheet. A 49th-floor condo at the Bristol Plaza at 200 East 65th Street just hit the market for $26.25 million. According to city documents, the apartment is owned by Eric Hadar, a real estate investor who recently completed a stint in rehab after an arrest on drug possession charges. We also look at a 10-room penthouse at 730 Park Avenue listed for $14.9 million, as well as famed hairstylist John Barrett's West Village apartment. Click here for more.

A $7 million maintenance project has turned parts of the elevated 1 train platform at 125th Street in Manhattanville a teal green. For analysis, we turn to Harlem Bespoke: "It's still a little dark for our taste (a lighter verdigris green is always a safe bet) but at least it's a color." And at least it's not blue, right? Right?! That's just a little Columbia-taking-over-the-neighborhood humor for you on this Hump Day, folks. [Harlem Bespoke]

99 John provides stylish and impressive amenity spaces for you to entertain family and friends, enjoy some personal time or meet up with your many interesting neighbors. Each space allows you to personalize the experience and make it your own. The gathering spaces are all yours… whatever your mood. And let's not forget the 24 hour concierge, parking garage, grocery, drug store and pharmacy all onsite within the building.
Originally built in 1933, 99 John was designed by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon, the architects responsible for The Empire State Building. Although the building is historic, it has been fully renovated and updated in keeping with modern city living. 99 John Deco Lofts is a fantastic combination of old and new.

Comment of the Day: “If you tear down that building…
"If you tear down that building they wont even let you replace it with anything taller than 12 stories. The community board will want a school and 30% affordable housing & the residence in the area will want to protect their 'views'. Even if you threw in public space, the CB would say that it's not accessible enough. Then the apartment owners will hire lawyers to make some BS about increased traffic and the need for an environmental impact study. Then finally, the renderings will be crapped on by Curbed readers who all think they have degrees in architecture."anon [Building's $100 Million Renovation May Result in Wrecking Ball]
